Southlake community teams are selling purple ribbons to raise awareness and save lives:
Beginning April 20th , businesses, community organizations and individuals are being asked to show their support for Relay For Life of Southlake and help raise awareness for the fight against cancer by decking out the town – including homes, restaurants, businesses, meeting halls or other areas- in purple.
“We want everyone to see purple and to think about celebrating, remembering, and fighting back,” said Terri Zelasko, Paint the Town Purple initiative leader. Plans are quickly moving forward to turn Southlake purple. The initiative, led by Relay For Life team Walking the Walk and several student-led Relay For Life teams, will be making purple ribbons available for a $5.00 donation.
“We saw this as the perfect opportunity to both raise awareness and to contribute to the fundraising needed to save lives,” stated Christi Coleman, Paint the Town Purple initiative team member. 100% of the funds raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Students, businesses, community members, and supporters can get their ribbons from members of the following community or student-led teams: Walking the Walk (community team), Big Sticks; Bigger Cause (CHS), Heart of a Dragon (CHS), HLT (CSHS), Smurf Out Cancer (CMS/DMS); Sisters for Life (DMS), The Cure is Key (DIS), Pink Tumornators (EIS), One Direction Towards a Cure (EIS), Pink Warriors (CES), and Carroll Marketing and Sports Information Internship Program team. Teams are asking for “Paint the Town Purple” ribbons to be displayed at businesses, tied on trees in neighborhoods and at homes.
Paint the Town Purple supports Relay For Life of Southlake an overnight event that brings the community together in the fight against cancer, which will be held May 11, 2012 at Carroll High School, 800 N. White Chapel, in Southlake. Individuals and teams - made up of family, friends, co-workers and community groups - will unite to fundraise, walk the track, socialize, take in the entertainment, and participate in a variety of activities going on throughout the night. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
