Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine will be offering kids ages 11 to 13 a chance to learn important tips regarding how to recognize and handle emergency situations while caring for young children during its Safe Sitter® program this summer. Sessions will be offered on June 12 and 18 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the hospital.

The cost is $75 per student and includes program materials. Students are asked to bring their lunch. To register your son, daughter or your child's babysitter, please call 1.800.4BAYLOR or visit Baylor Health - Grapevine Events.

“Safe Sitter is a great program for adolescents who want to become responsible and attentive caregivers,” said Megann Agnew, RN, Safe Sitter site coordinator at Baylor Grapevine. “We are excited to help provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to provide responsible care.”

Thousands of young adolescents across the country have been trained by Safe Sitter to handle life threatening emergencies. All information is taught by trained instructors. During the course, students get hands-on practice in basic lifesaving techniques so they are prepared to act in a crisis.

Safe Sitters also receive helpful tips to make them more confident caregivers. They learn safety precautions and how to understand and deal with children of different ages. They even learn about the business aspects of babysitting. To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students must pass a rigorous practical and written test to show that they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.
