With the final updated rankings from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cup everyone throughout the state of Texas now knows it is the Year of the Dragon. With five state championships to their credit this year Southlake Carroll takes home the prestigious award given annually to one high school (per class designation 1A-5A) based on their performance in district and state championships.

With a final score of 100 points Southlake edged out perennial power Conroe The Woodlands who tallied 92.5 points as this year’s runner up. The victory ends Conroe’s run of four consecutive 5A Lone Star Cups dating back to the 2007-2008 school year. The honor goes down in history as Southlake’s third Lone Star Cup (2000-2001 and 2001-2002 – 4A) and first ever at the 5A level.

As the winning school the Dragon’s earn the distinction as the best overall athletic and academic program in 5A Texas competition and a $1,000 scholarship.

The UIL was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. Since 1910 the UIL has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world.
