Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving and more star in Cloud Atlas opening this weekend
If you’re in the mood for a movie that will not only entertain but challenge you as well, you should catch Cloud Atlas, premiering this weekend at Harkins Southlake 14 Theatres.
This sci-fi, mystery, drama follows six different narratives occurring over several eras and includes a star-studded cast with actors Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, and Xun Zhou, who each take on multiple roles of different ages, races, and genders.
The stories begin with Sturgess playing a sailor making his way home in the 1800s, joined by Hanks as a doctor and David Gyasi as a stowaway slave. A second narrative takes place in 1936 as Ben Whishaw playing Robert Frobisher who is separated by his lover Sixsmith, played by James D’Arcy. Whishaw becomes the apprentice of the famous musical composer, Vyvyan Ayrs, played by Jim Broadbent. The third story brings Berry into the scene as an inquisitive journalist who is hot on the trail of a controversial story. In the present day narrative, Broadbent plays a London publisher who’s attempt at escaping a client’s thugs lands him in a nursing home. The final and future-tense narrative takes place in 2144 post-Apocolytic Neo Seoul.
Cloud Atlas lays the groundwork for each story before moving on to the next chapter, creating an intricate web of stories that are all linked.
This film is difficult, beautiful and definitely one that the viewer must see multiple times to fully grasp the different stories, perfect for those that take advantage of Harkins Theatres Loyalty Program, which once purchased can be used to get $1 refills and free medium popcorn. Cloud Atlas explores how every action you take is not truly your own and how every crime and kindness has repercussions that impact the present and the future. Stunningly made and excellently directed, Cloud Atlas is a must-see for fans of all genres.
Also premiering at Harkins Southlake 14 Theatres is the newest comedy/adventure film from Nickelodeon, Fun Size. This film follows a teenage girl who is forced to take her little brother out trick-or-treating, only to lose him along the way. She enlists the help of old friends and new to help her track down her little brother before her mother finds out.
Both these films have a PG-13 rating or higher so feel free to drop the kiddos off at Harkins Theatres' PlayCenter for only $6 to be entertained while you enjoy your flick.
