Colleyville Heritage High School Theatre presents Hairspray beginning January 25

by Tina Auten, Staff Writer

Colleyville Heritage High School Theatre Department is proud to present the Tony-Award winning musical, Hairspray, beginning Friday, January 25 at 7 p.m. in the Colleyville Heritage High School auditorium.

Based on the 1988 John Waters film by the same name with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman, Hairspray tells the 1960s tale of plump Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad, who dreams of dancing on local TV dance program, The Corny Collins Show.  When Tracy’s dreams come true and she lands a spot on the show, she is transformed from social outcast to instant star.  Tracy must use her newfound celebrity to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network – all without denting her ‘do!

Full of laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs, Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of American society during the early 1960s and is suitable for the entire family.

Tickets for Hairspray can be purchased at the door one hour prior to show time.  Reserved seat tickets are $15 and general admission tickets are $10.  Groups of 10 or more can reserve tickets by contacting  Evening performances are scheduled for January 25, 26, 31 and February 1, 2 at 7 p.m.  Matinee performances are scheduled on Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m., and Tuesday, January 29 at 4:15 p.m.
