This vivid flower is often found in fields of Bluebonnets

Castilleja indivisa

In Bloom: March–June

Also known as the Scarlet Paintbrush, this plant’s  vibrantly colored petals look like they’ve been freshly dipped in red paint. This Texas beauty can be found in a range of colors, from red and orange to cream and yellow. These warm, bright shades make for the perfect artistic complement to bluebonnets, which often share the same fields.

Flower Fact: Many species of Paintbrush are parasitic, using the roots of other plants to gather nutrients.
