Chris Archer for Place 7, CISD Board of Trustees

Part two of a two part series.  See Archer's part one responses.  To learn about his opponent Jim Palazzo, see partone and part two.

Q:  Carroll has an excellent and established reputation of providing a quality education for its students.  If elected, what are the details of your plans to maintain the quality of education amidst budget cuts?

A: Chris Archer – I believe that in order to maintain our excellence in these uncertain financial funding times we must first assess academic programs for efficiency and effectiveness. We should explore possibilities to partner with area districts or colleges to provide expanded academic opportunities with lowered cost.  We must research technologies that assist in curriculum delivery or enhance the learning experience.  I also believe that we should establish teacher mentor programs to more effectively capitalize on best practices.

I firmly believe that our schools must be as good at helping our children be successful in life as they are at teaching them math and social studies. This can only be accomplished through strong academics as well as outstanding extra-curricular opportunities that allow for expanded character and skills development, leadership opportunities and for a commitment to the whole student. I intend to stand for and promote both to ensure that CISD continues to provide a pathway to success for all students!

Q:  If elected, what personal skills and experiences do you plan to bring to the position?

A: Chris Archer – If elected, I believe that my community involvement, as well as my business and financial experience, will bring a fresh, focused, and creative aspect to the board. I believe that trustees, as elected representatives of a community, must be involved in the community. I have been a resident of Southlake since 1998 and have been fortunate to see our community blossom. I recently completed CISD’s CLASS program, which provides detailed insight into the academic, financial, and operational aspects of the district at both the campus and central administration levels. CLASS also provides a primer on the state funding system for schools and on legislative action and initiatives that impact the district.  I am currently a member of the Southlake Chamber of Commerce and Southlake Executive Forum. Our family supports, and I am a sponsor of, Carroll Education Foundation, Art in the Square, the Carroll Cross Country team and Southlake Relay for Life. In addition, my wife and I currently serve as committee chairs for this year’s GRACE Gala. I have been involved with Southlake Girls’ Softball Association and have served as a coach and Board Member as well as Southlake Baseball Association. We are also active members of White’s Chapel UMC.  I believe my extensive involvement provides me with insight into our community and will help guide me as I represent the citizens of Southlake as a CISD School Board Trustee.

Finally, my success as a businessman along with my personal and professional financial discipline will be a valuable asset if I am elected to the CISD School Board. Financial integrity and accountability must be a top priority because that is the only way to help insure our number one priority – our children – receive the educational experience they deserve. I hope to earn your support and your vote for Chris Archer, CISD School Board Trustee, Place 7.
