Last month, 17 Southlake members of the Cruise Holidays Travel Club returned from a photo safari in East Africa. On their first day in Nairobi, they participated in voluntourism — a fast-growing addition to global travel where participants volunteer a small portion of their travel itinerary to a charitable cause — with the orphanage at the Kenya Children’s Home.
The Southlake group visited every one of the dozen on-site homes accommodating as many as 200 children and their housemothers. As a result, Cruise Holidays raised close to $2,000 that will help support the orphaned boys and girls, ages 0 to 9.
According to Mike Currie, the Cruise Holidays of Southlake president, although the group did their best to give back, they declared the real angels in disguise were the children they were there to help.
