The classic Italian salad by Pie Five Pizza Co.

When it comes to fast and fresh food, Pie Five delivers

At Pie Five Pizza Co., every pizza-lover is a creative genius — and rightfully so. The pizza joint’s method allows the customer to choose from endless toppings, fresh ingredients and a variety of sauces and crusts to create their very own 9-inch version of pizza pie perfection. Last year, the restaurant won the Hot Concepts Award from Nation’s Restaurant News, clearly solidifying its status as an innovator in the culinary industry.

We paid a visit to Pie Five in mid-October, several weeks after its opening day (it’s the 12th DFW-area location). The restaurant, located on Southlake Boulevard near Dragon Stadium, immediately became a winner in our book with its variety of options — although you can build your own meal, there’s also an assortment of menu items you can select. We chose the Margherita (roma tomatoes, minced garlic, basil, olive oil and parmesan on artisan thin crust) and the Athenian (chicken, kalamata olives, red onions, banana peppers, minced garlic, olive oil, basil, sun-dried tomato puree and feta), each priced at $6.79. Other handcrafted customer faves include the Five Star (packed with pepperoni, beef and pork sausage) and the Farmer’s Market (a veggie-lover’s dream with mushrooms, red and green peppers, red onions, spinach, roasted tomatoes and Tuscan marinara). The best part about Pie Five? Every pizza takes the pie-tech experts just five minutes to make.

If you’re in the mood for something lighter, you’ll love Pie Five’s specialty salads served in their famous pizza-crust bowls — we recommend the spinach salad topped with apple-cider vinaigrette or the Asian salad that comes dressed with sesame ginger. For the kiddos, 6-inch kids pies with one topping are just $3.49, and we bet they’ll probably also enjoy Pie Five’s sweet treats, like the turtle brownie or the chocolate chip cookie pie. If you end up falling hard for Pie Five (and we’re fairly certain you will), be sure to join the restaurant’s Circle of Crust, where earning points for every pizza or large salad you purchase earns you free food. Plus, you’ll get the inside scoop about new Pie Five products and even a free pie delivered to you on your half-birthday. Who wouldn’t want that? As the freshest pizza concept out there, Pie Five truly deserves a high five.
