Even as the last of Icemageddon 2013 melts away, the storm that brought some of coldest days in the past decade made a lasting impression.
More than ever before, this Arctic Freeze had a major impact on the Carroll Independent School District’s calendar, wiping out three days of school and sporting events.
The Dragons’ swimming and diving meet was cancelled on Dec. 5 at The Colony during the district’s first bad weather day.
However, Carroll is set to return to the pool this weekend in the Mansfield Invite, which is the final meet of the year. The squad will dive into the New Year with its first meet on Jan. 11 in Katy, TX at the Lone Star Duel in the Pool.
Lady Dragon basketball was able to shoot around during the ice storm but had to leave the Metroplex to do it. Carroll traveled to LaPorte for the Peggy Whitley Classic and went 3-1, claiming fifth place. The Lady Dragons begin district play with a 10-3 record and will take on Keller Timber Creek on Dec. 13 at Timber Creek High School.
Following suit, Dragon basketball dominated Hurst LD Bell 59-47 during Icemageddon 2013. Carroll has a small reprieve before district play begins on Dec. 17 against Richland.
Dragon wrestling was unable to pin a spot in during the winter freeze, cancelling its tri-meet versus Fossil Ridge and Northwest. The team will return to the mat Dec. 12 in a tri-meet against Haltom and Keller Central at Haltom High School. Additionally, varsity is set to trek to Weatherford for the Outback Invitation on Dec. 14.
The reigning champion Dragon and Lady Dragon soccer teams returned to the practice field as the first pre-season rankings went out. The boys are ranked No. 9 in the Elite Soccer Report Fab 50, while the Lady Dragons are ranked No. 14 on the same list.
Both squads will return to action as the final sporting event of the year kicks off Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. against Diamond Hill Jarvis at Dragon Stadium. The Lady Dragons will begin their New Year campaign with a tri-match on Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. versus Grapevine and then at noon against Coppell at Dragon Stadium.
