State Champion 160lbs
It has been yet another great season for the Southlake Carroll Varsity wrestling team. The Dragons have once again regained prominence in the state of Texas, as the tradition surrounding a dominant Southlake wrestling program has yet again swept Dragon country. After winning the district championship for the third year in a row, one particular Dragon took it to the next step in the 2014 season.
Following in the footsteps of Carroll wrestling alumni Stephen McPeek and Robert Prigmore, senior Michael Basler finished off an incredible career for the Southlake program, winning the 5A wrestling state title at 160 lbs. As the lone state tournament qualifier for the Dragons, Basler represented the green and white well defeating a number of opponents in the state tournament on his way to knocking off Arlington Bowie’s Abbas Mounshed by way of pin 2:36 seconds into the match.
With much to be proud of in 2014, Southlake Carroll will be looking to see who answers the call as the next great Southlake wrestler.
Quote: Michael Basler joins a growing list of state champion wrestlers including Robert Prigmore (‘06) and Stephen McPeek (’09).
Head Coach: Joe Hathaway
