May 09, 2014 07:54AM ● By 16560

Spicar’s Martial Arts, the leading martial arts school in Southlake would like to invite you and your family for a fun day filled with high-octane action. We are hosting a professional martial arts tournament! Come see local student compete and show off their best martial arts skills. We are expecting around 500 local DFW competitors - this tournament is huge! Participants will compete in fighting forms and sparring.

“In forms students show off their physical abilities, control, speed, balance and precision. Forms train our mind and muscle memory and also self-defense skills”, says Adam Spicar, the owner. And then he adds: “Sparring is considered the most thrilling to spectators. You get to see students throw kicks and punches at each other as well as many other exciting jumping kicks and jump spinning kicks. They use protective gear and must also execute moves with control. In order to win sparring rounds they have to score more points then their partner. It’s incredibly high energy and exciting! You got to see it!

Students from age 4 to teenagers and adults are competing. Black Belt divisions are, of course, the most exciting and sought after and they start right at 9am and 10am. Here is the full tournament schedule:

9:00am - All Black Belts (Adults and VIP, 14 years old and up)

10:00am - All Black Belts (Juniors, up to 13 years old)

11:00am - Junior Dragons, White, and Yellow Belts

11:30am - Junior Orange Belts

12:30pm - Junior Green Belts

2:00pm - Junior Purple and Blue Belts

3:30pm - Junior Brown, and Red Belts

5:00pm - Men, Women and VIP Colored Belts (14 and up)

It’s happening this Saturday, May 10 in Carroll High School’s gym on White Chapel. The address is at 800 N White Chapel Blvd.

Spicar’s Martial Arts have been providing premier training in the traditional, self-defense oriented, “Blue Cottage” style of Taekwondo in Southlake since 2008. They are a part of national organization, Taekwondo America, which has member schools all over the United States. Spicar’s is located inside the Kroger shopping center on East Southlake Boulevard. Owners and chief instructors are Mr. Adam Spicar and Mrs. Lucie Spicar who have been very involved in local communities since opening, and together with other DFW Taekwondo America schools have helped raise over $20,000 for local charities, including Holton’s Drive for SIDS and Alport Syndrome Foundation of Texas.

“I would also like to thank to our big tournament sponsors. It is them that help make these huge events possible. Thanks to their generosity many children from Southlake and surrounding communities will have a time of their lives!” says Spicar.
