Here is a blast from the past as we gear up for the Dragon's 2014 home opener vs former head coach Todd Dodge and the Austin Westlake Chapparals set for August 29.
Back in 2006, the two teams met in the 5A State Title game at the Alamodome with Dodge as the Dragon's head coach. It would become Dodge's 98thand final win in Dragon Green.
“That was a great game,”brDodge says smiling. “The one where Tre went nuts,” referring to Tre Newton'sbr74-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Dragon fans will recall thebrjunior tailback breaking nine tackles before scoring and breaking a thirdbrquarter tie putting the Dragon's ahead 29-22.
Newton'sbrtouchdown was key, however, many feel the game's biggest play occurred later with seven minutesbrleft and the score tied at 29. The play featured Dodge's son Riley tossing up abr30-yard touchdown strike to Anthony Ford.
“I don't think Riley willbrever live that one down,” Dodge said with a laugh.
