Winter Break Camp Mania Returns for Third Year

The city of Southlake's Holiday Break Camp Mania returns for its third straight year for Thanksgiving (Nov. 24-26), Christmas (Dec. 22, 23, 26) and New Year's (Dec. 29, 30, 31, Jan. 2). All camps will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Durham Intermediate School's gym and cafeteria. The holiday camp is an extension of the city's summer camp, which has run since 1995.

According to, "children, ages 5-11, are invited to have fun and meet new friends in a safe environment during their time off school. Holiday Break Camp Mania will offer games, crafts, movies, field trips and much more. Your child will have a lot to talk about from their Camp Mania experience."

Although December camps have yet to be finalized, Camp Mania coordinator Ashley Newhart said the November camp will go to a movie at Tinseltown, as well as ITZ for the major field trip. The fire department will have an interactive obstacle course for the kids, plus arts and crafts tailored to the Thanksgiving spirit.

"Excellent first camp experience for my son and us! Looking forward to next year!" an anonymous participant from a previous year's camp said.

Newhart said various volunteers praised the camp's field trips. Youth volunteers were also helpful to the staff, according to Newhart.

If you are interested in signing your child up for this exciting camp, you can register online or at the Community Services office located at 1400 Main St, Suite 210. Camp costs $80 per camper ($105 for the week of New Year's). Before & after care is offered at no additional cost from 7:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.There is a $1.00 charge per child for each minute after 6:30 p.m.
