Texas Health Southlake Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony

Sep 04, 2015 10:20AM ● By Audrey Sellers

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southlake has a lot to celebrate: It opened in 2004 as the city’s first hospital, and it is expanding with a 5,300-square-foot addition. The hospital hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its expansion on September 9 at 2 p.m. with key hospital staff and local and state dignitaries in attendance.

The addition will be connected to the existing 46,300-square-foot hospital and will include six observation beds and the conversion of an underutilized procedure room into an inpatient bed. Construction is underway and anticipated completion is during the first quarter of 2016.

Citing the need to meet demand for healthcare services from Southlake and surrounding communities, hospital President Traci Bernard, RN, says the expansion will not only create much-needed space, but create better efficiencies and an improved patient, physician and employee experience.

“This project is much needed due to the growing need for the highest quality of healthcare in our community, and has been thoughtfully designed to complement our existing facility. We are very excited that our hospital  will be able to provide even more healthcare services for our patients,” Bernard said in a press release.

The groundbreaking ceremony will begin with comments from Bernard, along with Southlake Mayor Laura Hill; Dr. David Rothbart, chairman of the board for Texas Health Southlake; and Dr. Elizabeth Ransom, executive vice president and north zone clinical leader for Texas Health Resources.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southlake offers 17 specialties through its 250+ on-staff physicians ranging from neurosurgery and orthopedics to general surgery, ENT, podiatry and GYN. As a surgical hospital, most procedures done are outpatient, but the hospital is also equipped with 16 inpatient suites, along with six operating rooms and an emergency room open 24/7. Since opening its doors in 2004, the vision has remained the same: To be the best place to work, practice medicine and receive health care. For more information, visit
