Get your running shoes ready: Southlake-based Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group Inc. is hosting its second annual Run With the Troops 5K. The family-friendly event is planned for November 7, 2015, at Bicentennial Park. Head out and run or walk alongside past and current military personnel on a five-kilometer course all for the benefit of Operation Once in a Lifetime, a nonprofit created to make the dreams of U.S. soldiers come true.
“Del Frisco’s is thrilled to once again show our support for our nation’s service members and Operation Once in a Lifetime,” said Sherry Joseph Treviño, Director of National Sales, in a press release. “Not only does this special event allow our six Dallas/Ft. Worth restaurants to collaborate, but it enables the entire community to draw together in a fun and interactive way for a great cause.”
Last year, approximately 700 runners and walkers signed up for the event. This year, Del Frisco’s is aiming for 1,000 registrations, upping the competition, donations and fun. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to help Del Frisco’s and Operation Once in a Lifetime achieve this goal.
The Del Frisco’s Run With the Troops includes a 5K run and 1-mile kids’ fun run on a USATF-certified course. Runners also have the option of supporting a specific military branch by running cadence with a branch of their choice. Various service members from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines will be on hand to lead cadence in a formation run.
The event will also include a raffle and live drawing for a 1969 Chevy Camaro with an original motor.
Late registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. The 5K will be timed using state-of-the-art ChronoTrack timing systems. The ChronoTrack system uses a disposable tag, called a D-Tag, allowing runners to walk away from the finish without needing to return tags. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers and to the top three male and female runners in all age groups.
