Senior wide receiver Zach Farrar, a Dragon veteran, was recently named the 6A Built Ford Tough Player of the Week for his efforts in week 6 against Coppell. Carroll went on to win that game, 38-37. He will be honored on the field tonight when they take on Colleyville in hopes of rebounding a tough loss against Trinity last week.
A nice blurb was written on his performance on the PlayeroftheWeek.com website:
It was one of those typical competitive Friday nights in the Metroplex. No one was leaving Coppell's Buddy Echols Stadium early, thanks in large measure to the exploits of Southlake Carroll's senior wide receiver Zach Farrar. The 6-4, 210-pound sticky-fingered Farrar bought enough time for the Dragons to stage a late rally en route to a thrilling 38-37 double-overtime District 7-6A victory over the home-standing Cowboys. Zach hit his stride with eight receptions for 222 yards and three touchdowns (57, 75 and 38 yards)—averaging nearly 27 yards per catch! “Zach is such a fun player to watch; he really picked us up this week,” says Coach Hal Wasson. Each time Coppell threatened to pull away, Farrar brought the Dragons back. His third score of the game, a 37-yarder in the fourth quarter made it 24-21 before Carroll forced the extra sessions. That's good news for the Dragons (4-1), ranked No. 14 in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Class 6A poll heading into Friday's homecoming game with Richland.
Zach's exploits on the field—24 receptions for 508 yards and nine TDs— have recruiters from NTSU, SMU, Tech, UTSA, Fresno State, Iowa, Air Force, Boston College and Illinois hot on his trail. He sports a nifty high-B scholastic average and stays active in school.
“The biggest thing about Zach this season is his confidence,” says Coach Wasson. “Though he's a big, athletic and fast [4.5 40 speed] wide receiver, he pays close attention to his route running and has all the qualities of a selfless team player. It's been fun to watch him grow and mature into a great young man.”
