It was the adventure of a lifetime, and now students from Liberty Christian School are back to tell about it. The school’s Solis Bellator (Sun Warrior) team competed in the World Solar Challenge finishing in second place in the Adventure Class.
Not only did this team accomplish a mammoth task by trekking across Australia from North to South in a team-built solar car, but they boast having the youngest team member ever to compete in the World Solar Challenge. Freshman Austin Hunt (front right in the picture) is 14 years old.
The team was also one of only three high school teams joining the ranks of global teams and universities such as MIT, Stanford, Cambridge and University of Michigan (who came in fourth behind two Dutch teams and one Japanese team). The two other high school teams were from Japan and Houston, Mississippi.
