The Magic of the Season

Winspear Opera House. Ever wonder what’s behind the story of the man in the big red suit? How did he become Santa Claus? Surely he wasn’t always a jolly old man delivering gifts to good boys and girls around the world ... or was he? In this world-premiere event, Becoming Santa Claus tells the tale to answer these questions, bring- ing to life a new family-friendly opera never before told.

In his fourth full-length opera, composer Mark Adamo captures the mystery behind Santa, telling it through the talents of The Dallas Opera. The story begins in an Elven kingdom in the Far, Far North, following Prince Clause as he prepares to celebrate his 13th birth- day with an elaborate party fit for a future king. However, when a bright star signals a momentous birth, Prince Claus decides to treat the newborn with an array of dazzling gifts — eventually discover- ing that for all the toys you can create, love is the greatest gift of all.

Celebrating the importance of doing random acts of kindness for others, Becoming Santa Claus is a wonderful way to share the spirit of the season with loved ones. Treat yourself to this never-before-seen production, or gift a friend with tickets to experience it. You might just realize the true meaning of the holidays along the way.
