Healthy in a Hurry

If you’re health-minded and want a quick, nutritious meal, zip over to Snap Kitchen in Colleyville. The store, which is situated across from Whole Foods, has a simple concept: Walk in, select your chef- made, dietician-approved meal, and be on your way. You can heat it and eat it there (there’s a microwave along with a few window-side seats), but most folks grab the food and go.

Snap Kitchen is all about “fast food for foodies,” but you won’t feel rushed here. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. When we stopped in, a staff member happily showed us how to navigate the refrigerated case, which was stocked with a colorful array of containers in various sizes.

If words like “organic quinoa” and “consciously sourced produce” make your heart pound a little faster, you’re going to like the offerings at Snap Kitchen. The place promises “you’ll never find a speck of white flour in our house” and that it uses “no butter ever.” 

Whether this thrills you or terrifies you, you’re bound to find something appealing on the menu. It’s chockfull of good-for-you fare that spans the spectrum of dietary requirements: vegetarian, vegan, paleo, dairy-free, carb conscious, sodium conscious and more.

There are plentiful options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with healthy snacks and cold-pressed juices. We were in the mood for a smoothie, so we plucked a Chai Cashew Milkshake from the shelf.

All the ready-to-go meals were tempting, from the Spinach and Goat Cheese Scramble in the breakfast section to the Crispy Scottish Salmon in the dinner division. It was the Spaghetti Turkey Bolognese that beckoned to us from its BPA-free container, so we grabbed a small portion (most meals are offered in medium and large sizes as well) and headed back to the office.

A sticker on the microwavable container provided nutrition information and heating instructions. In less than two minutes, we were twirling a forkful of this hearty combination of ground turkey, gluten-free brown- rice spaghetti, sautéed mushrooms, basil, marinara and Parmesan cheese. It was surprisingly filling with just the right amount of zing.

We finished the meal with a few sips of the Chai Cashew Milkshake, a creamy concoction of cashews, filtered water, vanilla bean, dates and a sprinkling of spices. We can see this becoming a go-to snack when a sweet tooth hits.

The menu changes seasonally, so there will always be new freshly prepared meals to tempt your taste buds. Whenever you visit, you can be sure you’re getting wholesome, healthy food that hits the spot. As its website declares, Snap Kitchen truly is “good in every sense of the word.”
