How does your garden grow? If you’re a member of the Southlake Garden Club, here’s the answer: hydroponics. It’s a method of growing plants using mineral solutions, in water, without any soil. Kelly DeWitt, a hydroponics gardener, visited the Southlake Garden Club as the featured speaker for the January meeting.

“It was a very informative event for our members that taught us how to grow plants with only water, nutrients and a container,” says the club’s Monique Schill. “Mr. DeWitt demonstrated how the roots grow reaching for water as it recedes in the container over time. The growth rate of plants that are grown hydroponically is somewhere between 30 and 50 percent more than soil-grown plants.”
