There has been a recent trend of Carroll football players switching college commitments with Obi Eboh changing his decision from Texas to Standford and Zach Farrar moving from Mississippi State to play for Oklahoma.
Junior defensive back Robert Barnes made a "hard commitment" to the Sooners back in September; however, as recent as last month, he's still been receiving offers from other schools. Notre Dame was the latest on Jan. 22, extending the offer to head coach Hal Wasson on a visit to Carroll ISD, according to 247sports.com.
The 6-2, 185-pounder received previous offers from Alabama, Duke, Baylor, Ohio State, and other schools before accepting his offer to Oklahoma. He made first team defense in Class 7-6A in 2015-16, finishing the year with 105 tackles (2 for a loss), an interception, 7 deflections, a forced fumble, and a quarterback hurry.
After accepting his offer, he did visit Texas and Baylor, but has not strayed from his decision. Thirteen schools have offered the Dragon a chance to play football at the next level. Barnes is set to attend Junior Day at Oklahoma University this Saturday.
