The University Interscholastic League announced its biennial Realignment and Reclassification for 2016-2018 at the beginning of the month, placing Carroll in District 5-6A.
The Dragons join Lewisville, Marcus, Flower Mound and Hebron (Lewisville ISD), and rejoin Trinity and L.D. Bell, all current participants in 7-6A. District 5-6A also adds Byron Nelson, for a total of eight teams.
Five of the eight teams in the new program are former state champions in football (Carroll, Trinity, Marcus, Hebron, Lewisville). The announcement serves as the official alignment for football and basketball.
“We're excited about the new district," said Carroll athletic director Darren Allman. "Although we lost Coppell, I think District 5-6A will prove to be very competitive from top to bottom in all sports."
Coppell, a long-time rival of the Dragons, moves to District 9-6A.
"We are also thrilled with next year's home football schedule which will provide five great games, including Tulsa Union, Arlington Martin, Flower Mound, Euless Trinity, and Byron Nelson,” Allman said.
The Dragons' new bi-district will be 6-5A which includes Allen and Denton Guyer, according to MySouthlakeNews.com. "Teams from this district will pair against Carroll’s district in the first round of the playoffs," the source's article said. The non-district schedule includes Martin and Tulsa Union at home, plus Rockwall on the road.
The Dragons will scrimmage Arlington High School.
