Season Recap
What a year it's been for the Southlake Carroll CrossbrCountry team. Known nationally as one of the top Cross Country programs in allbrof high school, the Dragons put together yet another dominant season. The boysbrcelebrated many first-place finishes throughout the season, winning bothbrthe District and Regional Championships en route to taking second at thebrvery rainy, very muddy State Championship meet. Following their second-placebrfinish at Round Rock, Justin Leonard's Cross Country team finished second atbrthe Nike Cross Regionals, qualifying for the prestigious Nike Cross Nationals year-endbrmeet in Portland, Oregon, where they finished in 16th place with abrtotal team score of 344.
The Carroll girl's team fought hard and also enjoyed manybrsuccesses this season, beating many tough competitors on their way to anotherbrdominant season. Taking top honors at the District meet and qualifying forbrthe State Championship Meet, the Lady Dragons finished in second place, missingbrout on a state title by just nine points. After wining the Nike CrossbrRegionals, earning them a spot to compete in the National meet in Oregon, thebrLady Dragons finished in 15th place with a total team score of 340.
About the Teams
Coming off of a state championship in the 2014-15 season,brthe Southlake Carroll boys Cross Country team set out to repeat as champions inbr2016. Falling just short of their goal, the Dragons finished second in thebrstate behind champion Conroe the Woodlands, and leave this season with plentybrto hang their hat on. Junior Reed Brown had yet another strong year for the boy'sbrteams as he finished no worse then 16th in each competition thisbryear, as well as a first-place finish in the Nike Cross Regionals to go along placingbr14th in the Nike National Meet. Junior Charlie Gardener also madebrwaves in the Nike Regional meet, finishing in fourth place with a time of 17:13brin the 500 meters. With Carroll's top two runners returning next season, it'sbrhard not to fathom a push towards a state championship next year.
After placing fourth in the State Meet last year, the Dragonbrgirls Cross Country team improved during the 2015-16 season as they finishedbrsecond in the state behind champion Flower Mound Marcus. Senior Kayli Jones ranbrher third fastest time of the season in the 5,000 meter state meet finishingbrwith a time of 19:18.81. Sophomore Catherin Tracht proved to make headlinesbracross the state of Texas as she finished 21st in the UIL StatebrRegional Meet, to go along with finishing 24th in the UIL Statebrmeet.
