Southlake Carroll Wrestling
Season Update

Coach Joesph Hathaway’s Dragon Wrestling team has had a very good year. With one individual tournament left before its District meet and UIL postseason play, the Dragons have posted an impressive 11-1 record.

Currently ranked third in the state, behind Allen and Arlington Martin, according to WrestlingTexas.com, the Dragons have put together a slew of great team efforts. One of Hathaway’s best teams in recent memory, this year’s squad took its regular season prowess to new heights. With a well-rounded roster at all-weight classes, Hathaway’s club capped off an impressive undefeated district season after winning the District Dual Team Championship at Keller’s Timber Creek High. And as the stage got bigger, so too, did the team’s performance. Carroll recently achieved its best performance in program history, coming in third place at the 6A State Dual Championships in Houston.

In addition to the many successes at the dual level, the Dragons have also flourished in individual competitions. On the year, 42 competitors placed in meets including 20 finalists and nine champions. In doing so, the Dragons look poised to continue their successes at the state championships held February 19-20 at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s Berry Center in Houston.

 About the Team

Boasting 16 All-State wrestlers since 2010, the Dragon wrestling program has produced a flurry of talent throughout Hathaway’s tenure. With names such as Robert Prigmore, Steven McPeek and 2014 champion Michael Basler all doing their part to help build the reputation of the Dragon program, Hathaway has seen record numbers join the roster. With plenty of young talent on this season’s roster, the Dragon faithful’s present and future look extremely bright. Currently, six Dragon wrestlers in six different weight classes are ranked in the TexasWrestling.com state rankings.

Senior Jack Duval is currently ranked fourth in the 160 lbs. class and has had a great season with a couple of first place finishes to his name. Sophomores Cameron Haddock and Andrei Steinjann have also had great campaigns as they rank 7th and 10th in the state in the 126 lbs. and 138 lbs. classes, respectively. Juniors Adam and Aron Lindberg rank 8th and 10th in the state at the 170 lbs. and 152 lbs. weight classes, while senior Heavyweight Lucas Tribble ranks 8th in the state at 285 lbs.

Quote:

“This has been a great year for our team to this point. They have been growing all year and are really starting to put it all together. Our aim is to peak in February, and we are on track for another great post-season run. I’m proud of the effort and dedication our kids have shown throughout the year, and I’m looking forward to a strong finish.”
