The Carroll VarsitybrWinter Guard just made history. For the first time, the Guard made finals atbrthe Winter Guard International (WGI) Regional in Dallas, scoring fifth placebroverall. This sets the team up nicely to compete at the WGI World Championship in Dayton, Ohio, this April.
Daphne Adkison, HeadbrDirector for the Guard, recalls the moment the group learned they made finals.br“They were extremely classy as they have been trained not to react in a waybrthat could be perceived as unsportsmanlike,” she says, “but they had hugebrsmiles on their faces. We went to a place in the stadium as a group after andbrwere able to celebrate and enjoy such a wonderful, record-settingbraccomplishment.”
Carroll has three WinterbrGuards: a Cadet Guard with students from fourth through eighth grade, a JVbrGuard and a Varsity Guard. There are a total of 40 members.
The Varsity Guard, whichbrperforms a show called “A Touch of Gold,” practices every Monday and Thursdaybrin preparation for the World Championship.
“The group worksbrextremely hard at each rehearsal,” says Adkison. “We are so excited to go tobrWGI Championships and compete. It is my first year as Head Director, and I lookbrforward to growing and building a nationally ranked program.”
