The Gatehouse Celebrates One Year With Open House Festivities

Feb 25, 2016 07:48AM ● Published by Audrey Sellers

When The Gatehouse opened March 26, 2015, it had a purpose to provide a safe refuge for women and children in crisis. The nonprofit is delivering on its promise, having assisted 38 families and 59 children since it opened its doors last spring.

The Gatehouse invites the community to stop by for food, drinks, tours and fun on March 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. to celebrate its first year of helping families and changing lives. Click here to RSVP for the Open House.

According to The Gatehouse, “When our women first enter their fully furnished apartments, decorated with special touches just for them by volunteer God Squad members, they begin to remember they have value. When they develop their budget and are guided by appointment through the General Store and Keeps Boutique for food and clothes, they remember they have dignity. And when they begin to work and attend school, they gain confidence and realize that independence is possible.”

Since September 2015, more than 800 volunteers have completed the one-hour volunteer training, and more than 7,000 hours of volunteer time have been logged. The Gatehouse expects to admit an additional 58 families this year to reach a full capacity of 96 families.
