The Southlake Fire Department just celebrated its golden anniversary. For 50 years, the fire department has been serving the City of Southlake, and on March 5, the community came together to say thanks and to celebrate.
An Open House kicked off at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Southlake DPS Headquarters. There was plenty of family fun for people of all ages: a bounce house, balloon artist, clowns, face painting, station tours, extrication demonstration and vehicle displays. The crowd also enjoyed hot dogs, chips and drinks, and the first 100 kids received a free t-shirt.
Additionally, Mayor Laura Hill proclaimed March 1, 2016 as the 50th anniversary for the fire department at the March 1 City Council meeting. Click here to read the complete proclamation.
Editor's Note: If you happened to pick up a flashlight key chain at the event, the fire department advises that you discard as there is a potential issue with the battery door opening.
