Earlier this month, water polo players from around the country convened in Riverside, California, for the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Championships. The ODP is a forum to identify and develop athletes to represent USA Water Polo in domestic and international competition.
Throughout the tournament, USA Water Polo head coaches observe and evaluate every athlete on their water polo skills. As a result of these evaluations, athletes are selected to attend the National Selection Training Camp (NSTC) held March 31 to April 4. Zachary Lowery, a Southlake Carroll and Thunder Water polo player, was a member of the Southwest Zone Youth Development Team and placed ninth at the tournament. He was selected to represent the Southwest Zone Youth team to attend the NSTC in just a few weeks.
On the girls side, the USA Water Polo ODP National Championship will take place March 13 and 14 in Riverside, California. Lady Dragons make up one-third of the team, which is more than any other Texas high school. Representing the Lady Dragons include: Gabi Gervasi, Katie Nedrow, Sophia Torres, Ana Warner and Erin Weisert. Katie Nedrow has just signed her letter of intent to play for Bucknell in the fall.
