Do shoes make the woman? Not really, but they sure are a fun way to accessorize. Now, ask a woman if she can ever have too many shoes, and she will probably tell you, rather resolutely, “no!” While not all of us have the luxury of having a closet filled like Carrie Bradshaw, or quite frankly the space, there are some classic styles that work for any outfit. So, for all of you fashionistas out there, here are seven essential pairs to invest in and add to your collection, along with some examples that can be found in local Southlake stores. Happy shopping!

1. BLACK PUMPS $138 at Banana Republic

Add a little edge to your look with the Devlin Studded Pump. This classic shoe is a must. Think of it as the LBD of your shoe collection. It adds a classically chic finish and instant sophistication to every look and can last you from a day at the office to a night on the town.

2. BALLET FLATS $49.95 at Gap

Ballet flats are a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down and are perfect for running around in. They also make for a great extra pair to keep on hand just in case your feet hurt from those sassy heels you’ve been wearing for hours. From solid colors, fun patterns and embellishments, there are plenty of options out there. Gap offers its suede Cinch Ballet Flat in a variety of colors.

 3. ANKLE BOOTS $345 at Coach

With both low- and high-heel options, ankle boots are highly versatile. Choose from casual to dressy styles and rock them with a pair of jeans, leggings or skirt to add a little flair to your look. If you prefer a dressier option with a higher heel, try the sassy peep-toe Lolita Bootie from Coach.

 4. STATEMENT HEELS, $135 at White House Black Market

A great pair of statement heels can instantly make you feel sexy. Whether you opt for an animal print, unique pattern, metallic or vibrant color, invest in a pair that fits your personal style and can be thrown on with everything from jeans to an evening dress. If you want to make an entrance, check out the stylish Olivia Leather Exotic Print Pumps from White House Black Market.

 5. PLATFORM WEDGES $69.99 at Kohl’s

Believe it or not, wedges can be quite comfortable and help to show off your fabulous pedicure. They work well with shorts, denim and dresses, and are the perfect shoe to keep you stylish from spring through the end of summer. The faux suede Style Charles by Charles David Antwerp Women’s Wedge Sandal from Kohl’s is sure to add a little fun to your wardrobe.

6. RIDING BOOTS $363 at Buckle

Riding boots are essential for the fall and winter months. They can add a polished, chic look to a great pair of jeans, t-shirt and cool leather jacket. Get yourself a pair in either brown or black (or both), depending on what colors are most found in your closet. Buckle has a great variety of boots to choose from, including these Frye Jamie Ring Riding Boots.

 7. CASUAL SNEAKERS $49.99 at Kohl’s

Fashionable, casual sneakers are always great to have on hand, and I’m not talking about your everyday gym sneakers. Pair them with a cute pair of jeans, shorts or even a dress. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Shoreline Slip-On Sneakers from Kohl’s come in multiple colors and are a cute and comfortable option.
