Southlake was recently ranked 5th on a list of cities with the highest percentage of households earning more than $100,000 per year, put out by NerdWallet.
"High earners in Southlake are the majority of residents: 71.2% of households make over $100,000 a year. Homebuyers seek out Southlake for its plentiful shopping opportunities and high-performing public schools, with an eight-time state champion high school football team," the site said of the city.
Topping the list was Sammamish, Wash. The only other Texas city higher than Southlake was University Park.
Colleyville came in at 6th on the list. Other nearby cities on the list included: Keller (22), Frisco (31), Coppell (34) and Allen (60). The list was comprised of 100 cities in total.
Using data on household income from the 2013 American Community Survey, NerdWallet found the percentage of households making over $100,000 in each city.
"Then we ranked cities by this percentage. To gain a better understanding of income, we found the percentage of households making over $150,000 and $200,000 as well, but these factors weren't included in our ranking," the report said.
The U.S. median household income, according to data recorded in the report, is $52,250 per year.
