The Congressional Medal of Honor is our country’s highest military honor, bestowed on individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty. Today, recipients of this honor will be passing through Southlake in a special motorcade en route to Gainesville for a weekend of celebration and activities.

A record number of first responders are participating in the ride, along with motorcycle groups including the Christian Motorcycle Association, the Blue Knights and the Patriot Guard Riders.

Two fire engines will be positioned on top of the Carroll Avenue bridge, and the Southlake and Grapevine Fire Departments will lower a large American flag between the trucks to salute the Medal of Honor recipients.

All are invited to cheer on these living heroes this afternoon. The last Medal of Honor recipient arrives at DFW Airport at 4 p.m., and then the caravan will depart for Gainesville along Highway 114. More than 550 vehicles are participating, and the motorcade is expected to stretch for eight to nine miles.

Get your American flags ready and join the community in welcoming and celebrating these incredible American heroes who served from World War II to the war in Afghanistan.
