Dragon Water Polo Teams Compete at Regional Competition

Dragon Boys’ and Girls’ Water Polo teams have their sights set on State … and they prove they’re a force in the water. The teams were in action last weekend at the TISCA North Regional Water Polo Championships at the Carroll Aquatic Center. Twelve boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams competed for four state-qualifying slots to the TISCA State High School Water Polo Championships at Texas A&M later this month.

Here’s a look at the Lady Dragons results:

Boys:

Zach Lowery - 1st Team

Daniel Balint - 2nd Team

Nate Winkler - 2nd Team

Naysan Sahba - 2nd Team

Sean Murphy  - 2nd Team

Regional Girl’s Coach of the Year was Southlake Carroll’s Head Coach Joseph Yglesias. Dan Balint is Carroll Water Polo’s assistant coach.

Griffin Rea of Southlake Carroll also had an outstanding performance, including a game-tying shot with three seconds to go in the Flower Mound game to send it into overtime.

The Lady Dragons will take a top-two state ranking; the boys’ team a top-five state ranking going into the state championships. Sixteen boys’ teams and 16 girls’ teams from Texas’ four regions will be represented at the Tisca State Water Polo Championships.
