Baseball Tops Mansfield to Advance in Playoffs

May 09, 2016 08:34AM ● By Kevin
The Dragon baseball team shut out Mansfield in two games on Saturday to advance to the second round of the Class 6A Region I tournament. Carroll defeated the Tigers 10-0 in the first game, and 2-0 in the second game.

Junior Kole Ramage pitched a five-hit shutout in the second game, advancing the Dragons' record to 21-6-1.

The No. 2-seeded Dragons will face Hebron in the next round. The Hawks are 25-6 this year.

The Scoop From Spring 2016 Dragon Pride

It is no secret the Dragons’ pitching staff has a few horses in their stable. Led by Rice signee Mathew Canterino, and Arkansas commit and 6A Area Player of the Week (April 18) pitcher Kole Ramage, Carroll’s pitching staff has the depth to be dominant late in the season. The junior pitcher has looked impressive this season as he stands at 5-1 with a 1.27 ERA and 50 strikeouts on the season. His three homeruns and nine RBIs make him a nightmare for opponents on both sides of the plate.

Committing to play shortstop for Texas A&M, Hudson Sanchez has provided a powerful bat in the middle of the Dragons lineup, leading the team with four homeruns and 25 RBIs. Providing another proven bat alongside Sanchez, senior Reagan Rainwater has had a productive year at the plate. He is tied for third on the team with senior Soren Krug in homeruns (three) and is second on the squad in RBIs (14). The return of Oklahoma commit Zack Farrar to the Dragons lineup should bode well for the team in its playoff pursuit. In seven games, the outfielder has six hits and is batting .273 at the plate. With the playoffs swiftly approaching, Larry Hughes’ ball club is looking for their bats to heat up, so they can make a deep run into the playoffs.
