With only one senior on this season’s roster, Carroll has to be excited about all it has been able to accomplish in 2016. With a roster comprised of mostly freshman and sophomores, the Lady Dragons have been able to surprise the field with great young talent. Led by the sophomore trio of Malak Boradea, Emily Martin and Emily Zhou, the Dragons have had a rather successful 2015-16 season. Malak Boradea enjoyed the team’s highest finish in the Class 6A region 1 tournament—her score of 149 (+7) was good enough for a second-place tie on the leaderboard. Boradea finished in second place again at the the Interscholastic at the Old Brickyard Golf Club and fourth at the district tournament at Champions Circle Golf Club. Emily Martin earned an eighth place finish in the region 1 tournament, while finishing eighth in the district tournament as well. The last member of the trio, Emily Zhou, had an incredible district tournament. Shooting a 157 (+13), she finished just one point off the district title. As the Dragons move closer to reaching their goals, the year only gets more interesting. With a bright future ahead, all Dragon fans can do is sit back and enjoy the show.

Season Update Girls Golf

Back to the state championship they go. After qualifying for the state tournament last year, the Dragons Girls golf team built on their momentum and are headed back to claim what’s theirs. Ranked 11th in the state according to the UIL 6A rankings, Matt Glenn’s Dragons have given themselves a shot at claiming a state title. The Dragons held on to a runner-up finish in the Class 6A Region 1 tournament, beating out teams Arlington Martin and Hebron in the process. Prior to qualifying for the regional tournament, Southlake Carroll green team took second place in the 7-6A district tournament, while the black team took home a fourth-place finish. “This is a committed group that works hard for each other,” says Head Coach Matt Glenn. “If we keep playing like this, we can definitely compete in the state tournament.” With the state tournament right around the corner, Southlake is looking to make its run at a ring.
