At the annual Melon Dash inbrMcKinney's Town Lake Park, refreshing watermelon serves as a sweet conclusionbrto the race. If that sounds like a nice perk to you, lace up your running shoesbrand head out for the 5K or Fun Run. The Fun Run kicks off at 7:45 a.m. followedbrby the 5K at 8 a.m. This is the seventh “Run Project” race scheduled for 2016. ThebrRun Project includes 13 running events with an emphasis on both passion for runningbrand giving back locally; each race benefits an area nonprofit. The event's entrybrfee benefits the League of Animal Protectors, an all-volunteer, nonprofitbranimal rescue and adoption organization. And don't forget about all the awesomebrrace swag! Participants will receive a Melon Dash T-shirt, temporary tattoosbrand sunglasses. It might be hot out there, but you'll look so cool.
Runners who brave the Texas heat will be greeted withbrcold towels and plenty of refreshments at the finish line. The community cranksbrup the fun by coming out and cheering for the runners along the race route. Somebrhomeowners play inspirational tunes and even run alongside participants.
