This month,brWestlake Academy is hosting its second annual International Mindedness EducatorbrSymposium, an event that encourages global collaboration among students as wellbras authentic learning experiences that go beyond textbooks and lectures.
At the symposium,brscheduled for July 28-30, teachers from Argentina,brCanada, China, Costa Rica, Oman, Mexico and the U.S. with gather to share their thoughts and experiences to help promotebrworthwhile educational programs across the world.
Breakout sessions will include keynotebrspeakers Dr. Linda A. Cook, the K-12 Director of Science for the CoppellbrIndependent School District; Bhavani Parpia, founder and President ofbrConnecTeach, an international nonprofit that is committed to breaking the cyclebrof poverty; and Mona Nashman-Smith, who has held senior educational leadershipbrpositions in schools in North America, Europe and the Middle East.
Last year's symposium includedbreducators from Costa Rica, Mexico, and Argentina as well as surrounding areasbrin Texas. The after-effect generated collaboration during the 2015-2016 schoolbryear that included “global handshakes” via Skype sessions so students couldbrconnect and engage with each other. One project that came out of thisbrpartnership was the successful LIMBS International campaign, where studentsbrraised money to buy prosthetics for amputees.
