The Goddard School’s Aviation Week Soared to Exciting Heights

Aug 09, 2016 08:01AM ● Published by Audrey Sellers

For preschoolers at The Goddard School in Southlake, aviation is spelled f-u-n. The school recently wrapped up a weeklong aviation campaign designed to take S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning to new levels.

Southlake resident and commercial pilot Cathy Almand visited the school wearing her military pilot uniform and gave preschoolers the chance to try on actual pilot gear. Students also got hands-on with aviation crafts and paper-airplane flying.

The week culminated in an Open House that included an opportunity for families to climb on board a helicopter and watch it take off. The activities and helicopter tour were designed to support critical-thinking skills and collaboration as well as foster a love of S.T.E.A.M. and teach learning through play.
