Dawson Middle School Adds Cheerleading Squad

Aug 18, 2016 07:50AM ● By Audrey Sellers

Get ready for school spirit to soar even higher at Dawson Middle School: A cheerleading squad is back on campus to add a little pep to everyone’s step. Cheerleaders will attend each home football game as well as various volleyball and basketball games, leading fans in cheers and chants for the green and white.

Lindsey James, 7th grade language arts teacher and cheer coach at DMS, is excited to have cheerleading return to the school after five years without a squad. The girls are ready to showcase their talents, too. The squad recently competed at the UCA Cheer Camp at Great Wolf Lodge, earning superior ribbons during all evaluations, two superior trophies and a spirit stick.

“The girls understand that being a cheerleader is not all about wearing the big bows and cute uniforms. It’s about representing your school in a positive manner and increasing school spirit,” says James. “I am hopeful that the addition of cheerleading to DMS will be the finishing touch to sporting events and our overall school spirit.”
