Carroll Cross Country Hosts 12th Annual Southlake Invitational

Sep 14, 2016 07:48AM ● Published by Audrey Sellers

The 12th annual Southlake Invitational kicked off Saturday at Bob Jones Park beneath stormy skies. The race, which has become one of the state’s supreme events, marked the second year for runners to compete at the new venue. Some of Carroll’s top boy and girl runners had a scheduled week off and did not compete. Varsity Girls took fourth place and Varsity Boys took 10th.

“We would like to thank all of our volunteers, the Southlake Parks and Recreation department and all of the participants/coaches for their help with this event,” says head coach Justin Leonard. “This was a great meet for us and allowed us the opportunity to run some of our JV runners in the varsity division, which will help us in the future. We were really proud of the way our kids competed.”

Dragon Varsity Girls Take Fourth Place

The Varsity Girls were led by freshman Rima Toure in 34th place (20:13), sophomore Riley Lackey in 41st (20:21), sophomore Kelley-Anne Richards followed in 49th place (20:36), freshman Lydia Lo placed 55th (20:46) and freshman Delaney Drefs took 61st place (20:51) to complete the 5 scoring positions. A total of 184 varsity girl runners participated.

Dragon Varsity Boys Take 10th Place

The Varsity Boys team took 10th, led by freshman Nate Lannen 52nd with a time of 17:06, sophomore Henry Gardner was 53rd (17:07), sophomore Vishnu Nair took 71st place (17:22), senior David Archer came in next for the Dragons with a 88th place finish (17:35) and sophomore Hayden Coleman took the 95th spot (17:39) to complete the top five Carroll runners out of 232 varsity boys participants.

JV Dragon Girls & JV Boys Both Take Fourth Place

The JV girls team was led by Jordan Fleming who took 13th place (21:38) and the JV boys team by Wyatt Packard in 15th place (18:28).

The Carroll Cross Country Varsity teams will be competing in Norco, California, this weekend at the Woodbridge XC Classic.
