Carroll Cross Country hadbranother winning weekend. The varsity Dragons traveled to the 28thbrAnnual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where morebrthan 120 high school teams competed in one of the country’s premier runningbrevents. The JV Dragons competed at the Falcon Fast Invitational in Keller,brwhere teams in both the Varsity and JV divisions came away with solidbrperformances.
Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival - Varsity
The varsity boy's teambrtook first place in this extremely competitive race. Reed Brown led the way,brtaking first place with an impressive time of 14:41, followed by CharliebrGardner in ninth place at 15:34. Next was Nicholas Fernandes in 24thbrplace with a 15:53; coming in 40th was Connor Rutledge at 16:05 andbrrounding out the top was Evan Dunkel in 60th place with a 16:17.
The varsity girl's teambrplaced second at the Chile Pepper Festival, missing the top spot by only twobrpoints behind Keller High School. Sophia Santamaria led the Lady Dragons comingbrin 13th place with a time of 18:27, followed closely by GillianbrMortimer in 14th place at 18:29. Next was Cate Tracht in 19thbrplace with a 18:43, coming in 21st was Angie Riera at 18:50 and AribrLopez completed the top 5 with a 23rd place finish and a time ofbr18:57.
“The Chile PepperbrFestival is one of our favorite meets of the year. It's a great course and racebrenvironment,” said head coach Justin Leonard. “We had some outstandingbrperformances and some areas that we can improve upon in the future. Nobody remembersbrhow well you ran in early October. It matters how you run in November.”
Falcon Fast Invitational – JV
The JV teams competed inbrboth the Varsity and JV Divisions at the Falcon Fast Invitational. The varsitybrboys competitors took fifth and the varsity girls placed seventh. The JV girlsbrcame away with first place and a low score of 27, while the JV boys took secondbrplace.
