Top Six Things to Experience at Oktoberfest Southlake

Oct 05, 2016 11:13AM ● By Audrey Sellers

It’s time for the magnificent spectacle of Oktoberfest Southlake, the weekend-long celebration of German culture, giant beers and racing wiener dogs. It only happens once a year, and this year happens to mark the 15th anniversary of Oktoberfest Southlake.

Hosted by the Southlake Chamber of Commerce, tens of thousands will descend upon Southlake Town Square this weekend to partake in the festivities. Break out the dirndls and lederhosen—it’s time for fun to be had and memories to be made. Here are some of the best things to experience at Oktoberfest Southlake.

1. Incredible live music

From Le Freak, The Molly Ringwalds and Southlake’s own Cammie Avers on the Main Stage to Oma & The Oompahs on the Tent Stage, your toes will be tappin’ (just like all those kegs).

2. All the food and drinks you can handle

For a festival focused on food and beer, you can’t beat Oktoberfest Southlake. Prepare for plenty of hearty comfort food, seasonal beer and classic festival fare for the whole family. Prosit!

3. The Oscar Meyer Weinermobile

The iconic hot dog on wheels will be out Saturday morning. Bring the kids and seize the photo opp!

4. Wiener dog races

Get to the Sports Zone early—you’ll want a good view of the Wiener Dog Parade at 9:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the legendary Wiener Dog Race at 10 a.m.

5. Can’t-miss contests

Ever won a yodeling contest or chicken-dance contest? Here’s your chance. You can also compete and win prizes for the Best German Costume or try your hand in the Stein Hoisting Contest.

6. Tons of family fun

The Kids Zone is packed with games, activities and bounce houses; expect plenty of opportunities to enjoy that hefeweizen while your kids play.
