The Southlake Carroll Cross Country teams hosted the inaugural Carroll Dragon XC Classic on Saturday amidstbrfall-like temperatures and a muddy course. The Lady Dragons dominated, takingbrfirst place for both Varsity and JV. Nine Dragon runners finished as NationalbrElites*.
“The Carroll Cross Country program would likebrto thank all of our parent volunteers, the City of Southlake and everyonebrinvolved with making our meet a success,” said head coach Justin Leonard. “Overbr1,500 runners participated, and we were able to provide a great runningbrenvironment for all participants. Our Cross Country teams put together strongbrperformances, and we are excited for the post season. It's time to step up andbrstart running fast.”
The Varsity girls took firstbrplace and were led by senior Gillian Mortimer, who took fourth place with abrtime of 18:14. Next was Ali White who crossed the line in ninth place at 18:52,brthen Cate Tracht in 10th place at 18:57, Ari Lopez was next in 11thbrplace at 19:01, and Sofia Santamaria was the final scorer in 12thbrplace with a time of 19:02.
The Varsity boys came in thirdbrplace and were led by senior Nicolas Fernandes in 10th place with abrtime of 16:17. Connor Rutledge was next in 19th place with a 16:24,brEvan Dunkel crossed next in 34th place at 16:58, Enzo Mortimer wasbrnext in 39th place with a 17:03 and Drew Bliss completed the scoringbrpositions, coming in 45th place at 17:06.
The JV girls came in firstbrplace with an impressive low score of 28 and were led by senior Callie Colvinbrwho crossed the line in first place with a time of 21:09. Not far behind wasbrJordan Fleming in fourth place at 21:18, Madalyn Wardin was next in fifth placebrat 21:21, Aurdrey Kwentus came in eighth at 21:30 and Catlin Mertz finished thebrscoring positions with a 10th place finish at 21:41.
The JV boys came in thirdbrplace, narrowly missing second place by one point. Matthew Sims was first to cross the line forbrthe Dragons coming in fifth place at 17:47. Next was Ryan Sanders in ninthbrplace at 17:59, Steven Torres was right behind in 10th place atbr18:01, Duncan Brown was next in 16th place at 18:06 and WyattbrPackard completed the scoring positions in 19th place at 18:13.
The Dragons will use thisbrweek off to train hard and prepare for the District meet on October 22 inbrDenton.
