Shangri-La World Travel Marks 10 Years in Business

Shangri-La World Travel, a Southlake-based travel business, is celebrating 10 years of helping Southlake plan their travel adventures. Owners Mike and Gloria Currie started the business out of a personal passion—they’ve traveled to 65 countries and cruised on mega ships and private yachts.

“Our business grew from a personal passion to a business plan to day-to-day learning with successes along the way,” says Mike. “After year two, Gloria and I just knew, ‘We got this one!’”

The agency offers it all, including personalized travel planning, cruise packages and all-inclusive resorts. Over the years, the Curries have seen Southlake residents travel less for business and travel more and further for leisure.

“International travel is so expansive that a good agency must specialize to create value against online companies,” Mike explains. “We began as cruise specialists (Cruise Holidays of Southlake) and have expanded our inventory. Our tagline reads, ‘We know what to do when you get there!’”

In 2015, Shangri-La World Travel was invited to join the Signature Travel Network, a top global-travel consortia. The business shifted from franchise to a co-op member of elite travel agencies in the United States.

“Shangri-La means ‘out of the way paradise,’” says Mike. “Where’s yours?”
