You probably remember the buzz about Pollo Tropical, the restaurant chain specializing in Caribbeanbrcuisine, coming to town. But only eight months after opening, the Southlakebrlocation has closed its doors. Its last day in business was October 24.
Fiesta Restaurant Group,brInc., the parent company of Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana, announced in abrpress release that 10 Texas locations of Pollo Tropical have closed and up tobrthree will be rebranded as Taco Cabana restaurants. News has not been releasedbrwhether the Southlake location will be part of the rebrand.
The decision to closebrrestaurants was based on a restaurant portfolio examination as part of the company'sbrstrategic review process to enhance long-term shareholder value.
Interim Fiesta presidentbrand chief executive officer Danny Meisenheimer said in a press statement, “Afterbra period of aggressively growing Pollo Tropical in Texas, we have hit the pausebrbutton to focus on building brand affinity, frequency and awareness, whilebrcontinuing balanced system development over time. We believe closing orbrrebranding these underperforming stores provides the opportunity to furtherbrstrengthen our operational and financial performance across the remainingbrrestaurants in Texas and across our Pollo Tropical brand as a whole.”
Meisenheimer added,br“We remain optimistic about the future growth opportunities for both our PollobrTropical and Taco Cabana brands and believe that the steps we are taking nowbrprovide opportunity for success in 2017 and beyond.”
