The SouthlakebrCarroll Boys and Girls Cross Country teams earned second-place finishes at thebrClass 6A State Championship in Round Rock, Texas. Renovations to Old Settler'sbrPark meant the runners had to navigate a new and challenging course, but bothbrthe boys and the girls came away with a podium finish.
“We are extremelybrproud of our teams' efforts at the state meet yesterday. I'm so proud of thisbrsenior class and the dedication they have shown throughout their four years inbrthe program,” said head coach Justin Leonard. “Even though we came up a littlebrshort of the goal, the impact these kids have left will last and carry on forbrthe next generation of Dragon runners. The journey has been fun, and the questbrfor excellence will continue. Thank you to all of our parents, teachers,brcoaches and community leaders for their continued support. We will be back andbrready for the next journey.”
It was a repeat ofbrlast year's state meet with the Dragon boys coming away with second, behind ThebrWoodlands. Senior Reed Brown came in fourth overall, Nicolas Fernandes finishedbrnext for the Dragons in 11th place. Charlie Gardner was the nextbrscoring Dragon, coming in 36th place followed by Evan Dunkelbrgrabbing 54th and Enzo Mortimer took 92nd to finish outbrthe scoring positions. Connor Rutledge came in 113th place and JuanbrArcila took 141st, completing the varsity team.
The Lady Dragonsbrhad a repeat of last year also, coming in second place. Their team was led bybrsenior Gillian Mortimer who took fourth place, followed by Ali White grabbingbr20th, Sofia Santamaria came in 25th, Angie Riera was 36thbrand Ari Lopez was 50th, finishing out the scoring positions. SarahbrMcCabe was 69th and Cate Tracht came in 76th to completebrthe varsity team.
