Last weekend, Dragon Water Polo journeyed to The Woodlands to participate in the Allison Maloney tournament. The event was an opportunity for the Dragons to see the teams they will face at state on May 5 and 6 at the Westside Aquatic Center in Lewisville.

The Lady Dragons won the tournament by defeating the current state champions, Cy-Creek, by a final score of 5-2. These two teams have battled it out for three tough seasons. In 2015, the Lady Dragons defeated Cy-Creek to win the state championship. Cy-Creek defeated the Dragons in 2016 to claim the championship with the Dragons placing second.

This year, the Lady Dragons hope to carry the momentum of the Allison Maloney tournament into the post-season. Dragon Water Polo will host regionals the weekend of April 22 at the Carroll Natatorium.

The Dragon men’s team placed third at the tournament. Zach Lowery was named a recipient of one of the Allison Maloney scholarships for Outstanding Water Polo Players.
