Smoke Signals

There’s plenty of showmanship when this cocktail is prepared tableside, which makes it all the more fun to duplicate at home. With glowing embers and swirling smoke, this Old Fashioned is just the cocktail to impress dinner guests at your next summer soiree.

SMOKED MAPLE OLD FASHIONED

INGREDIENTS:                        VOLUME:

TX Bourbon                             2 oz.

Organic maple syrup              .5 oz.

Angostura bitters                    2-3 dashes

SMOKING INGREDIENTS:

4-5 hickory smoking chips

Cedar plank

Small blowtorch

Two Old Fashioned cocktail glasses

INSTRUCTIONS:

Place the hickory smoking chips on a cedar plank and use the blowtorch to create a small fire. When the chips are glowing orange, extinguish the flame by placing an Old Fashioned glass over the top. Allow smoke to build in glass for 1-2 minutes. Mix the bourbon, maple syrup and bitters into the smoked glass until syrup has been dissolved. Serve neat or with a few ice cubes.

NICE TOUCH:

Garnish with an orange peel and maraschino cherry.
