Round up your furry friends and pucker up: Operation Kindness, North Texas’ original and largest no-kill animal care and adoption center, invites the community to the 23rd annual Dog Day Afternoon on September 30. The free event is the largest festival in Dallas-Fort Worth celebrating dogs and the people who love them.

“Dog Day Afternoon was created as a way to celebrate the bond between dogs and their owners, and to provide a free, fun event for the community to get to know us,” said Jim Hanophy, CEO of Operation Kindness, in a press release. “We are able to introduce some of our animals and get the word out about animal adoption, so that when people are ready to adopt, they’ll think of us.”

This year’s event, sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton. Highlights include a mutt midway with dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of pet-related merchandise, a puppy-kissing booth along with canine contests with ribbons and prizes.

You can also score low-cost pet vaccines by Texas Coalition for Animal Protection, cool treats from Kona Ice, sweet tea and lemonade from Raising Cane’s and PopStar Popsicles. Don’t miss pet psychic and communicator Sandra Larson or the photo booth by Level-Up.
