Five Family-Friendly Activities Happening This Weekend

Jan 05, 2018 01:31PM ● Published by Ashley Madonna

When it's this cold, it's easy to just hide indoors and wait for Monday to come. But with so many fun, family-friendly activities happening, you won't want to miss out on these exciting opportunities. If you are on the lookout for something to do this weekend, check out one of these local events.

One-Man Star Wars Trilogy

The force is strong with self-proclaimed uber geek and Star Wars Trilogy Canadian actor Charles Ross. See his love of the show come to life at his solo venture One-Man Star Wars Trilogy. He will retell the entire story in 60 minutes with no costumes, no props, no music and no sets. But he will bring all the laughs and fun needed to make this a great night out with the kids. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is said to be suitable for everyone from age six to Yoda.

Confetti Cupcakes Workshop

Children ages 5 to 8 can come out, with a caregiver, and create their own sweet masterpieces at Taste Buds Kitchen’s Confetti Cupcakes Workshop. Break out of the typical vanilla routine by adding sprinkles into your tasty creations. Because if it looks good, it’s bound to taste great – right? Tickets run for $28 per person and spots are limited, so sign up quick.

2017 Magical Winter Lights

Even though Christmas has come and gone, holiday lights are here to stay for at least one more weekend. Come out to see the 2017 Magical Winter Lights before they shut down for the season on January 7. The larger-than-life festival is full of different light shows and attractions, so there’s always something new to see. This year, you won’t want to miss out on the lanterns. They have attractions with themes ranging from magical wonderlands to Texan tributes to dinosaur discoveries. Don’t miss your chance to see these before they close up shop.

Sunday Funday

Sunshine Glaze is hosting a Sunday Funday for the first Sunday of the New Year. Come out from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. to get 10 percent off your entire purchase. They are a walk-in studio, so you don’t have to worry about booking an appointment. Just show up ready to create beautiful works of art. Whether you want to gather the girls for a fun ladies night or bring out your family to create something special, you will walk out with something you can cherish all year long.

Salvador Dali

Give your family the opportunity to experience some culture this weekend by swinging by the Arlington Museum of Art to see Salvador Dali: Visions of Eternity. The painter, designer, sculptor, writer and set designer has a lifetime of art that deserves to be appreciated, and now it has been gathered for locals to admire. The exhibit has 101 unique pieces of the famous artist’s work including his full series of Dante’s The Divine Comedy. And there’s so much more to explore behind every turn.
